Ανάμεσα στα 112 πτώματα που ανασύρθηκαν τον Ιούλιο, 44 ανήκαν σε παιδιά. Ήταν μέλη της ίδιας εκτεταμένης οικογένειας, σύμφωνα με τον εκπρόσωπο της πολιτικής προστασίας στον θύλακο, τον Μαχμούντ Μπασάλ.
Ο κ. Μπασάλ εκτιμά πως υπάρχουν πάνω από 8.000 πτώματα που παραμένουν θαμμένα στα συντρίμμια στη Λωρίδα της Γάζας.
«Οι ομάδες μας εργάστηκαν αδιάκοπα για 17 ημέρες», είπε ο Μοχάμεντ αλ Μουγάιρ, διευθυντής επιχειρήσεων του οργανισμού άμεσης βοήθειας που ανήκει στον κρατικό μηχανισμό της Χαμάς, με τη συμβολή δυο μηχανημάτων έργου που έθεσε στη διάθεσή τους η Διεθνής Επιτροπή του Ερυθρού Σταυρού και της Ερυθράς Ημισελήνου (ΔΕΕΣ).

«Σε κάποιες περιπτώσεις, βρήκαμε άθικτους σκελετούς, οστά που συγκρατούνταν ακόμη μαζί μόνο από τα ρούχα τους», περιέγραψε.
Η πολιτική προστασία και οργανώσεις όπως η ΔΕΕΣ καταγγέλλουν εδώ και καιρό ότι το Ισραήλ, που ελέγχει όλα τα σημεία εισόδου στη μικρή παραθαλάσσια ζώνη, δεν επιτρέπει να εισέλθει επαρκής αριθμός μηχανημάτων και υλικών που είναι απαραίτητα για να ανασυρθούν τα πτώματα των θυμάτων.
Παρά την κατάπαυση του πυρός σε ισχύ από τον Οκτώβριο του 2025, αεροπορικοί βομβαρδισμοί και πλήγματα του πυροβολικού συνεχίζουν να συνταράσσουν τη Λωρίδα της Γάζας σχεδόν καθημερινά.
Από τη 10η Οκτωβρίου 2025 τουλάχιστον 1.252 Παλαιστίνιοι έχουν σκοτωθεί, σύμφωνα με τους αριθμούς του Υπουργείου Υγείας της κυβέρνησης της Χαμάς, οι οποίοι θεωρούνται αξιόπιστοι από τον ΟΗΕ.
Στις κηδείες την Τρίτη, άνδρες είχαν παραταχθεί για τις επιμνημόσυνες δεήσεις.
Στις περιπτώσεις που τα θύματα αναγνωρίστηκαν, είχαν τοποθετηθεί φωτογραφίες τους πάνω στα φέρετρα.
Μέλος της οικογένειας Χουσάινα, η οποία ξεκληρίστηκε, λέει πως πλέον έχει χάσει κάθε ελπίδα πως θα εντοπιστούν θύματα που αγνοούνται ακομη.
Κάποια θύματα «εξαερώθηκαν», ή «οι σάρκες και τα οστά τους καταπλακώθηκαν από όγκους μπετόν», εξήγησε ο άνδρας, που εκφράστηκε υπό τον όρο να μην κατονομαστεί για λόγους ασφαλείας.
Σε έκθεσή τους που δημοσιοποιήθηκε τον Απρίλιο, η Παγκόσμια Τράπεζα, η Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση και τα Ηνωμένα Έθνη εκτιμούσαν πως στη Γάζα βρίσκονται 68 εκατομμύρια τόνοι συντριμμιών, υπολειμμάτων κτιρίων που κατέρρευσαν ή υπέστησαν ζημιές.
Σύμφωνα με τη μελέτη, πάνω από το 60% των δύο και πλέον εκατομμυρίων κατοίκων της Λωρίδας της Γάζας έχασε το σπίτι του αφότου ξέσπασε ο πόλεμος.
